We ARE THE COLLABORATIVE

The Virginia Safe Wildlife Corridors Collaborative (VSWCC) brings together organizations working at the intersection of transportation, public safety, and wildlife conservation.

This diverse collaborative includes participants with a range of roles, including those engaged in research, those focused on science-based advocacy and policy solutions, and those engaged in habitat connectivity through land conservation.

Our mission is to protect people and wildlife by reducing animal-vehicle collisions and improving safe wildlife passage across Virginia.

SUPPORTING RESEARCH

VSWCC supports wildlife corridor research by identifying knowledge gaps, connecting partners, sharing findings, and providing resources for implementation.

Improving Safe Wildlife Passage

Wildlife crossings are underpasses or overpasses that allow animals to safely cross roads and access important habitat, preventing population isolation and local extinction. VSWCC identifies underpasses and collision hotspots throughout Virginia, implementing fencing solutions that guide wildlife safely under roads and reduce mortality.

INFORMING CONSERVATION

VSWCC advances conservation through mapping collision hotspots, supporting the 2020 Wildlife Corridors Action Plan, and providing educational resources on corridor research.
